Usually, my monochrome paintings are made up of a variety of colours even though they appear as one tone. So a miniNature in rust earth tones will contain red oxide, ochre, burnt umber, titanium white and probably Payne’s grey.
.
With this one, I thought I’d explore the result of using only Payne’s grey and white.
.
Very difficult indeed to create some significant nuance. But it just goes to show, even when things appear black and white, they never are. In fact, much of the joy and the pain in anything lingers in the many shades in between.

Here’s a thought for your Friday: What do you define as your golden years? The ones rich in youth and energy? The ones you’ll graft hard during? The ones shy with luxury but rich in bravery? Or are they the days you look forward to? The days you’re saving for? The ones you’re working towards? Days to put up your feet?
.
If you asked me – I think my golden years are the years where I’m willing to say f*ck yes to my madness within and go full tilt to see – just maybe – if takes me to the land in my dreams.
Just some reflections this shade of ochre awakened in me.

Experimenting with some monochromes again – the painting equivalent of palette cleanser (get it? har-har).
.
But no in all seriousness – it’s a fun thing to sit with your energy change as you paint in different shades.
Yesterday’s painting got a lot of love (thank you!) but for me, it was a colour rooted in a wee bit of grit and letting go.
.
Blue, on the other hand, has people asking “aw – are you okay?”, with that strange head tilt thing. But blue is my happy space. it lifts me and fills me and soothes me and listens to me.
.
I agree 100% with Yves Klein on this one
