A walk through the park this is not. The work under a downpour, more like it. Thank goodness for red umbrellas. Sometimes they’re actual red umbrellas.
.
And sometimes they’re your person, believing in you and loving you while you work through your rain.

Some people cross your path to give you direction. Others give you hope. And yet some even give you the feeling that you’re on the right track. This is James. We had a lovely conversation about tiny art and just this simple act gave me the feeling of being seen and acknowledged for the big little tiny things I see and paint.⁣

I gifted James my Friday painting of this colourful crowd grooving in the desert beside the spirit train. He is now the parent of ‘Friday’s child’ – a painting destined for the spirit of loving and giving. ⁣

I started painting on tiny canvases purely because that’s all I could fit in my suitcase on travels back from the States many years ago. Because I’ve always marvelled at life’s tiny miracles (ladybugs🐞, helloo?!) my love for capturing nature’s vastness on tiny canvases deepened, and so did my fondness for painting larger than life moments to hold in the palm of your hand. ⁣
.⁣
But the irony is – what the world usually deems as ‘larger than life’ – and what the heart deems so, are very different. By today’s standards, it seems it’s often “the little things” that really are the ones that take up the most room in our hearts. This day at @babylonstoren with my wizard man talking to opuntias was one of those little big moments. ⁣
.⁣
He’s the maker of all my tiny stretched canvases and the man who somehow set me free and called me home simultaneously in the desert (yes, at the Burn) a wee year ago. His penchant for sacred geometry sometimes leads him to make even teenier tinier octagonal canvases like this one from offcuts. ⁣
.⁣
And this first one was destined for a little first-anniversary painting. 💚⁣

Get in touch if you have a special big little moment you’d like captured on an octagon canvas.
