Ooh, I love the days with numbers that roll off the tongue – like you’re in a rhythm sweet spot. Three Two Five of Three Six Five! Like I could jiggy to that. Know what I mean? 😄
.
So this is officially one of the things I struggle most with! These setting sun into darkening night sky blends!
.
And it’s not even as if I don’t know why. Every time I dive in, I try to blend the entire spectrum at the same time. And it always turns to an icky sticky mud.
.
So I put it aside and worked on something else. Today, I tackled it again with new energy. The energy of someone trying to do a million things at once while also painting. Emails, sending off admin, getting designs approved for other projects. HA! And then it hit me that I’d probably get through the gradient of the day’s todo’s far better, if like this sky, I didn’t try to blend them all together at once, but instead transitioned from only one colour into the next once the previous colour or task had set into completion.
.
Don’t you love those moments where you feel like you’re wagging your own finger at your own nonsense ways of doing things?
.
When you blend steadily and slowly – the sky really is the limit on what you can achieve.
.
And just because it was such an aha-moment-sky I added stars in even though you wouldn’t see them with a setting sun. Because why not add more brightness where you can 😄

I wanted to paint this little scene for no other reason than walking on this farm road surrounded by nothing but the sounds of the bush brought me such overwhelming peace.
.
Quite a few of my friends have commented that they would like to commission a miniature but they don’t have any amazing photographs or larger than life moments.
.
To that I say – any photo of a moment in nature that gave you a feeling you want to hold on to, is a moment worth giving some tangibility to. Besides, what most people don’t realise when it comes to my miniatures, is that it’s often the story behind the photo I’ve been commissioned to paint, that really bring the tiny miniature to life.
.
It’s the wilderness within us all that inspires me so.

Tankwa is a great place to recharge your spirit and your heart. But it’s also a beautiful recentering of how you’re shaping your life. After a magical artwork stroll, I headed back to camp to paint another desert miniature – fully recharged with creative energy. I got thinking about the phrase ‘making a living’ and how, while I might not be there yet, there is such joy in literally using your hands to make – create, build, shape, craft – to make your living, that is the essence that sustains you both financially and emotionally.⠀
.⠀
During a dance session on Sunday, I got chatting to this groovy character. His name is Jacques and he’s a Jack of all trades – a builder. We connected over the material art of “making a living” – the hard work, the labour and the reward of pouring of your physical self into your work. I waved him goodbye with this painting, Saturday’s child, in his pocket – because Saturday’s child works hard for a living.⠀
⠀
It was like the desert knew whom to bring me for my gifts. Lekker.

“In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
– Albert Schweitzer
Couldn’t have said it better. And this is what the burn could offer you – and did indeed offer me – in trailer loads!

Do you believe in the ways of the Universe? I do. With every fibre of my being…Here’s a little story to share her language with you.
.
We were desperate to go to the burn this year, but my financial and time commitment to my paintings didn’t allow for the funds to head to the dust. But still, I thought I’d put a call out to the Universe and see what magic might unfold and so I actioned a few posts and ads on Instagram and Facebook offering paintings for tickets. Then a Reddit post came my way of someone wanting to gift their ticket. I responded to the post with my heart’s reasons for seeking more desert magic and an opportunity to thank her for reawakening my creative fire.
.
As life would have it, another wonderful human saw my post, contacted me directly and she and her friend gifted us their tickets. I’m still in total awe and reverence of the Universe! Our ticket gifters didn’t know about my offering paintings in exchange so my delight at being able to thank them with tiny art is overflowing!
.
The law of attraction is a beautiful thing, but Oprah says it most succinctly: “People get to where they want to go, because they know where they want to go.”
.
So for the next 4 days, our true-to-the-Karoo hearts are going to the desert, baby – to soak up the magic and gift some tiny paintings!
.
Real-time me will be back on Monday. I’ve opted for social media scheduling so I don’t bombard you with 4 days of paintings while we’re disconnecting in the dust.
.
Love and light to you all, beautiful humans (hope you find some of your own fire and try talking to the Universe in pursuit of your own dreams!)
