“Much of your pain is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.” – Khalil Gibran
.
Someone once told me that if you don’t make time for your body, it will make time for you. And in it all, the aches and the setbacks, I am grateful to be able to tune into the parts that hurt and hear her whisper back. Even that, when it hurts, is a lovely thing.

Slow your healing down. Get back to basics. Water to quench your desires. Fire to warm your solitude. Earth to feed your hunger. Air to still your haste.

More poppies to keep my healing back company…
.
I felt like a physical regression after what felt like full recovery was a personal failure at first.
.
But setbacks don’t mean failure. They mean you’re in motion, penduluming back and forth until you find the balance of your new normal. It’s just the rate of your recovery.
.
This is my new mantra to self:
Slow your healing down. Get back to basics.
Water to quench your desires.
Fire to warm your solitude.
Earth to feed your hunger.
Air to still your haste.
.
And ploppies (as I like to call them) to make you smile. 😚

Found these lovely words while reflecting on the natural elements and finding balance living in alignment with them
.
“Everybody has a little bit of the sun and moon in them. Everybody has a little bit of man, woman, and animal in them. Darks and lights in them. Everyone is part of a connected cosmic system. Part earth and sea, wind and fire, with some salt and dust swimming in them. We have a universe within ourselves that mimics the universe outside. None of us are just black or white, or never wrong and always right. No one. No one exists without polarities. Everybody has good and bad forces working with them, against them, and within them.

PART SUN AND MOON by Suzy Kassem”
― Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun: The Writings of Suzy Kassem
.
I tried painting what that balance might look like. While I’m not in love with how the painting turned out, I’m very much in love with the GivingOfZeroFigs in trying something different.

And so the triptych and the project building journey are complete!
.
I’m super duper excited to finally be able to share this project with you!
.
So what are the seas calling, I hear you wondering?
They’re calling all O C E A N E E R S!

Anyone who considers themselves a sea aficionado/-a and who’s against industrial animal farming & large scale fishing – for the sake of our beautiful oceans.

@oceaneers.co is an initiative conceptualised by my awesome friend @kasparpaur and I’m mega stoked he pulled me on board as the creative force!

I’ve lived by the ocean my whole life. I’ve paddled in her, dunked my overwhelmed head in her, lost weight with her, talked to her, taught my dog to swim in her, nearly drowned in her, painted her, fell in love in her, cried in her. She’s been my reprieve from the world, my therapist and my coach and too often, a best friend. What kind of friend would I be, if now when she needed me back, I did not also believe in her, create for her, stand up for her and fight for her?
.
What I love most about this concept is that its focus is on reduction, awareness and empowerment around food choices as opposed to an all or nothing approach. Because let’s face it – we all have different journeys and for many of us (me included), 100% vegan eating doesn’t fully align.
.
Please go check it out @oceaneers.co. Give us a follow if it’s something that aligns with where your heart is at and also hop on the site at www.oceaneers.co if you’re keen to learn more and subscribe for relevant content on all things ocean.

It’s been a massive privilege and joy to work on and I’m excited for where it goes!
Also a quick shout out to the beautifully talented @sustainablesarah of @transparenci_za for taking my logo concept and making it digital and slick! 🙏🏼 See you in the barrel🌊!
