While it may not be the one Simon & Garfunkel we’re singing about, Cape Town’s Scarborough, or Scarbs as we locals like to call her, sure is a fair part of the world.
.
This painting was commissioned by an SA expat to their dear friend back home who will soon also be saying farewell to their Kommetjie and Scarbs in the journey of seeking a new home. This beach, this bench was their special spot together in the deep south of the Cape.
.
My heart always rises like the tide with the sentiment upon which gifts like this are given. In her gift card, she wrote: “places don’t keep our memories, we take them with us.”
.
The whole song might not be apt but for these two friends this line (which I hope lives on in this tiny painting) sings true:
“Remember me to one who lives there, for once she was a true love of mine.”
