‘Hibernate or Evergreen?’ – Day 163/365

ORIGINAL COPY POSTED ON INSTAGRAM DURING THE CHALLENGE

In woods like this, it’s interesting to observe the contrast of those trees that choose to shut down for a period during hibernation and those that remain green throughout. ⠀
.⠀
Society makes us feel like we should all be evergreens, right? Just keep going, making, producing, 24/7 as though it were summer all year long.⠀
.⠀
Sheer exhaustion made me crave a seasonal existence. Periods of output, periods of total rest and also ones of rediscovery and then trimming that which no longer serves you. ⠀
.⠀
But here’s the thing. Pines do both all year long. They are evergreens that can find life in all seasons. They seem to grow and decay simultaneously. No sudden transformations, luminous crowns or complete barrenness. I wonder if the trick is to just grow, but grow slow…⠀
