‘Flippit’ – Day 69/365

ORIGINAL COPY POSTED ON INSTAGRAM DURING THE CHALLENGE

There was no way I was ever going to get through a series of 365 paintings, being super chuffed with all of them. It’s just not realistic. While my bar of self-satisfaction usually lives in the land of hyper detail, it’s just not who I am on a day to day basis. And doing these daily has a way of really bringing YOU into what you create. Some days I’m meticulous AF and others I’m a bit more ‘eh-painting schmainting’. And since I’ve just moved through another phase of stuckedness (yes, it’s an approved art term) there was bound to come a total day with no more f**** left to give. So I gave myself permission to post this painting, feeling like it could be far better in any other day, but for today, it’s my best. And I’m grateful to this cheeky process for teaching me the difference.

In yoga, it’s believed that inversions are a great detoxifier of stuck energy – by literally going contrary to your physical ‘right way up’ nature. So I guess my painting this watery reflection was me seeking to invert my painting rut. (And another unplanned irony for this to culminate on day 69. Oh, universe, stop it now) I’ll let you know tomorrow if the inverting worked. But for now – I’m off to headstand and meditate and see what shakes out on to the next tiny canvas.
