Living in a mountain town awakens in you some quiet affinity for the large, encompassing presence of mountains.
You’re constantly navigating their imposing ridges, peaks and curves. Over, through or around.

I like it. Nothing is ever a straight path. It’s a winding journey. Because the reality is, we can’t move mountains. We can only work around them, exist with them, or with a great amount of patience, build them.

Which got me thinking about this year of paintings (I think about what I’ve gotten myself into a LOT). Once I’d begun the journey of building this mountain, and stopped wriggling around so much within it in total resistance, it’s become a peaceful feeling. To commit yourself to shaping or affecting some huge body of creation that can only be done slowly and steadily, saying a polite ‘no thank you’ to any other opportunity or distraction that pops up en route can give you something steady and concrete to hold on to.

This 365 tiny painting challenge is my peaceful giant. What’s yours? I’d love to hear it. 🏔
